DAY 2 It feels so good to be back in my Miracle Morning Meditation practice. It's amazing how amazing this feels! Whenever I re-start this practice after months of life's distractions I always ask myself, "Why do you stop doing this? If it feels so good and inspiring, and healing to make time for meditation, why on earth do you take "breaks" from it?" I don't have the answer yet...maybe you do?
So speaking of taking the time. That's what Day 2 is all about...The Biology of Time. In today's pre-meditation chat, Deepak Chopra says:
"Our biological age is not necessarily tied to our chronological age. The body of a stressed out unhappy 30 year old may function like a 50 year old's body. How we interpret our experience affects our biology...
We can change our experience of time through our beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors."
After re-reading this quote I started to use a quote of Deepak's to make the moome to the right to highlight Day 2's lesson. But, after it was done, I realized I HAD to turn it around for a more positive message (the one you see at the top of this page). In the last couple of years I have realized the incredible power of changing my thought patterns. It's a simple matter of thinking about what you WANT instead of re-hashing what it is you have that you don't like. HAH! Not so simple as it turns out.
At first it was difficult to divert my mind from it's habitual bitching and whining about what was wrong with my life. First I had to catch myself doing it...then rephrase each thought:
"I am no good at this." - "I am learning how to do this."
"I am old." - "I am grateful for my health."
"I don't have much money." - "I am grateful for what I have."
"Does she hate me?" - "Does she like me?"
I'm getting better at finding new ways to rephrase. It's just as easy for me to think about relaxing my way to a 30 year old body than it is to nervously inspect and criticize every wrinkle or gray hair. The truth is because of the stress relieving techniques my sister taught me and the meditative path I'm on, my body today actually FEELS stronger and happier and more relaxed than it did a few years ago. How's THAT for being a master of time. Woo Hoo!
